Scouting identification of one sustainable solution for cleaning painting tools contaminated with water-based paints

Water-based painting contaminate waterways and drinking supplies, harming aquatic life and creating toxic buildup. Now, a new initiative called PaintSmartly 1 is searching for sustainable solutions.

The six-week scouting project aimed to develop an eco-friendly method for cleaning water-based paint equipment. Researchers investigated approaches that reduce environmental impact while addressing practical concerns: eliminating odours, preventing microbial growth and improving energy efficiency.

By considering environmental, economic and health factors holistically, PaintSmartly 1 sought one promising sustainable solution that can be widely adopted. The goal: cleaner water, protected ecosystems, and safer communities.
